Geotechnical Engineer
Accountable to: Principal
Responsible for: HHNT has an immediate opening for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with solid waste and mining engineering experience to support our consulting practice. The primary role will be to provide geotechnical project support to HHNT’s projects and to potentially grow a small solid waste / mining geotechnical engineering unit for the company. This position will provide an opportunity to work on challenging and interesting projects and be part of the growth of the company. The ideal candidate needs to have an entrepreneurial attitude, be self-directed, and be responsible for recruiting and mentoring efforts to expand HHNT’s geotechnical expertise. The ideal candidate will have geotechnical engineering project experience in solid waste (landfill design, landfill stability, waste containment system design, geosynthetics, etc.) as well as in the mining industry (stockpile and highwall stability, drainage, etc.) and possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Requirements: Master’s degree (or PhD) in geotechnical engineering from an accredited university. Minimum of 10 years of related experience in solid waste/geotechnical projects and the ability and/or interest to develop a geotechnical practice within HHNT. Registered professional engineer for at least 8 years with a Georgia Professional engineering license, or ability to obtain within 6 months through comity, if required. Must have strong oral/written communication skills and ability to work well in teams. Knowledge and proficiency in geotechnical software (slope stability, settlement, deep foundations, finite element modeling, etc.) Demonstrated skills to assess client needs, develop staff capabilities, make recommendations, and help manage and grow HHNT’s consulting services. Must be proficient in MS Office Suit (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Willing to locate in one of the HHNT offices in Georgia and South Carolina.

Project Management:
- Lead geotechnical investigations and prepare geotechnical and/or landfill design reports to support permit applications or permit modifications for solid waste management projects.
- Prepare engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications.
- Manage projects, including the management, coordination and review of subcontractors, budgets, and schedules.
- Oversee geotechnical engineering analyses.
- Oversee geotechnical site characterization.
- Oversee fieldwork associated with design and construction services.
Direct Time: 100%
Availability: Be available 24-7 by iPhone (company provided) within reason. Scan for emails and texts at nights and weekends. Most tasks can be handled remotely but when required, office hours when needed.
